Hello from us
Hello, my name is Gem and I live here at Margaret House with my family. I am an artist & my husband is an avid gardener.
We rent our courtyard garden out to a handful of photoshoots & wedding ceremonies each year. Ceremonies have ranged from big and small, from just 2 people, to 60 people.
Before we bought this property, the house has served as a gathering place for local artists and creatives. It’s been a vibrant hub for so many people. That’s why we want to continue to share it with the local community - because it’s just so special!
General & History
Margaret House is a unique property located in Alphington, in Melbourne's Inner North. Originally built in the 1880s, it is part of a heritage-listed Italianate house and garden. During that time, the house was situated on farmland with the Yarra River in close proximity, adding to its picturesque surroundings.
In 1920, the house underwent subdivision and was transformed into three separate townhouses. Over the years, the property has served as a gathering place for local artists and creatives. It has been a vibrant hub, hosting art exhibitions, parties, and late-night dancing, fostering a lively and artistic community.
The house itself is spread across two floors and features a leafy courtyard. The interior pays homage to classic European aesthetics with five-meter-high ceilings and large windows contribute to the spacious and airy ambiance of the property.
Margaret House stands as a testament to the rich history and cultural significance of the Alphington area.
